Laguna Hills, CA – February 2019 – (PR.com) – A group of ten IT professionals from the Washington, DC area traveled to a rural community in the San Juan de La Maguana District of the Dominican Republic for a week-long service experience to help build a house for a family in the village of La Guama.
Bridges to Community’s Dominican staff worked with the group from Washington, DC to build a sturdy cinderblock home to replace an existing wood home which was no longer safe. Volunteers lived in the community and immersed themselves in the culture. They worked side-by-side with local masons to help construct the house. Funds from companies like Cynergy Professional Systems help pay for this house and other programs that support communities in the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua.
The La Guama community is four hours west of the capital in Santo Domingo, DR. Families living in the community rely on subsistence farming practices and live on just dollars a day. Bridges to Community partners with the community leaders to create a plan to improve the quality of life for those who live there.
The Reyes family, who are receiving the house, grow beans for a living. Fatima, the new homeowner, is also a cook at the local school. Fatima’s father and three children live with her. They are so excited to be receiving this new home.
“Our work would not be possible without the generous support of companies like Cynergy,” states Julia Hadlock, Bridges to Community’s Executive Director. “Cynergy is helping us to change lives by providing a home to a family that gives them both better health and security, and for that, we are very grateful.”
